Working with Cornerstone Theater in East Salinas on Plumas Negras. It is an incredible experience to learn their techniques of creating community engaged theater. This play has a cast of 39 people, 30 of them have come from the community and bring the vitality and authenticity of their life experience to the story. Today we are in tech and bringing the pieces together. This work of bringing important community stories to the community by the community is profoundly moving and I am very excited to see how it is received.
We are planning a parade that will travel through the Broadway theater district to advocate for gender equality in the theater. Please join the announce list- womenstagetheworld@theatrewomen.org. Thank you 🙂

Today I am going to a planning meeting for a fun project- The idea is about dressing up as famous women in theater and going to plays and theater related events in character to raise awareness and ideally the presence of women working in theater.
Check out this link and if you want to participate in anyway please let me know.
Tonight I am staging a reading for a new Zen Noir play. It will combine Jazz Improv, Zen ideas, and a Noir world- here’s looking at you sweetheart 😉 http://buddyzinn.blogspot.com/
Here is a clip of the Picasso Project- I want to develop it into
Enter- art- ment (working title)- Will be a play/movement piece about activating and inhabiting fine art. Using paintings by modern and contemporary artists as storyboards we will create a series of scenes. The scenes will intertwine opening up meaning and the permission of diverse interpretation for performance company and the audience. Each individual scene explores excerpts from an artist’s body of work and is sculpted by the rhythm, visual world, and energy of the artist’s work.
When first starting to explore this idea with Picasso’s Blue Period, I was amazed by the depth of plot and visual meaning that could be mined by physically exploring the painting. Now I’d like to try with a variety of artists such as Goya, Toulouse Lautrec, Georgia O’Keeffe, Andy Warhol, and Salvador Dali. Any suggestions of artists would be fantastic.
The project will conclude with a scripted performance piece lasting 50-55 min with 6 performers.
I want to make a piece that can perform locally and tour. The tour performance will include an interactive audience workshop, so they can experience inhabiting paintings too. I can see this piece performing at museums and performing arts centers around the country and the world. It expands definitions and is a playful way to encourage engaging in Art.
I invite interested guests to suggest artists to research and explore.
This website’s purpose is to engage the conversation, build community, and change the world. As a theater director I want to open the question of participatory art and audience engagement. I want to encourage empowerment of all involved in the process of making an artistic experience. And I want to grow as a theater visioneer.
